Large Number of Tesla Cybercab Robotaxis Spotted in Houston, Hinting at a Launch Soon

A large number of Tesla Cybercab robotaxis have been spotted in Houston, Texas. This marks the first time a significant presence of Cybercabs has been seen in Texas’s largest city. Tesla (TSLA) is already operating its geofenced Robotaxi Service in Houston, although the city’s geofenced area is smaller compared to Dallas and Austin. Houston currently has a geofenced area of approximately 21 square miles, while Dallas and Austin have geofence areas of 81 and 264 square miles, respectively.

The autonomous ride-hailing provider expanded its geofences in Austin and Dallas late last month, but there has been no expansion in Houston since the launch of Tesla Robotaxi Service in April 2026. The recent sightings of Cybercabs and Model Y Robotaxis in Houston suggest that Tesla may be preparing to accelerate testing and validation in the city.

The presence of steering wheels on some Cybercabs indicates they could be engineering test vehicles, similar to those marked with a “Cybercab Tesla Engineering Prototype” decal in the past. Some Cybercabs spotted are versions with integrated Starlink receivers, indicating advanced capabilities.

Currently, Austin is the only city where Tesla is operating its driverless Cybercab autonomous ride-hailing service. Other cities, including Houston and Dallas, as well as Orlando, Miami, and Tampa, are only operating Model Y Robotaxis.

Tesla’s current focus on testing in Houston suggests that a potential launch of Cybercabs in the city could occur before the end of the year, possibly within weeks. The small geofence aims to ensure customer safety while Tesla’s FSD v15 AI learns more about the city’s traffic dynamics.
