Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock increased by 2.73% over the last five business days, largely attributed to the Cybercab’s success and Slovenia’s approval of FSD (Supervised). Some commentators suggest the launch in Austin, Texas, could be Tesla’s ‘iPhone moment’, a significant milestone for the company. Initially, CEO Elon Musk aimed for the Model 3’s launch to mark this moment, but setbacks in production and delays in FSD hindered those plans.
Nearly a decade later, Musk’s ambition appears to materialize with the introduction of the Cybercab, a vehicle that is attracting attention globally, particularly in countries such as China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The interest in the Cybercab peaked at a popularity index of 100 on Google the day after its release on September 4, and has remained noteworthy ever since.
The Cybercab is distinguished by its innovative ‘Unboxed Process’ for production, which allows for the assembly of vehicle modules in parallel, thereby reducing the production line size by half. This technique enables a more efficient manufacturing process compared to traditional methods and lessens reliance on multiple suppliers, which helps minimize supply chain issues.
The design of the Cybercab further enhances its cost-effectiveness, as it lacks standard elements like a steering wheel and pedals, reducing the number of components required. This allows Tesla to produce Cybercabs faster and at lower costs, strengthening its position in the autonomous vehicle market.
Tesla plans to sale the Cybercab for around $30,000, potentially becoming the most affordable autonomous vehicle for consumers and small companies. Currently, the Cybercab faces competition from Waymo and Zoox in the US, both of which trail behind Tesla in terms of production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
By disrupting its own vehicle lineup and implementing cutting-edge production techniques, Tesla seems poised for significant growth in the autonomous vehicle sector, as it aims to expand the Cybercab’s market presence across the United States.
